We are happy to inform you, that Ueli Steck and Simon Anthamatten were honoured last Friday night with the „Prix Courage 2008“.

Ueli Steck and Simon Anthamatten such as six other candidates were nominated by the editors of the Swiss magazine „Beobachter“ for the „Prix Courage 2008”. The jury under the direction of writer Franz Hohler gave away the Jury Prize to Ueli Steck and Simon Anthamatten. In May of this year the two climbers hurried up to help two comrades in distress at the Annapurna massif in Nepal at 7,400 meters above sea level. The Rumanian survived thanks to the intervention of the two. For the Spaniard unfortunately all help came too late. In presence of Ueli Steck, he died in the icy heights. In his honorific speech Franz Hohler tributes the Swiss alpinists of their selfless rescue operation. Exposed by a big risk, they did not hesitate to question their own survival in order to act not only courageously, but fearless unto death. They had dropped their original, big goal, to climb Annapurna Southface to help the two comrades.

Since 1997 the magazine “Beobachter” will set a signal with the Prix Courage, that courageous acting and courage for one’s convictions is worthwhile.

Finally we made it! Five years have passed, since Stephan Siegrist and I first ascended the route in the Eiger Northface during the hottest summer ever in 2003. Now, I was able to climb every of the 27 pitches redpoint. Stephan belayed and supported me. Together we climbed this very difficult and demanding rock climb in the Eiger Northface. Two pitches have the difficulty of 7c+, one pitch 8a and the rest of the pitches are between 7a and 7c+.

Since the mentioned summer of 2003, Stephan and I have been trying to freeclimb the route. This means that the route has to be climbed without falling and the bolts and the installed belayings cannot be used to forward or to rest. The route is climbed only by using the natural structures: the rock. Only when a route is freeclimbed, she is definitively climbed. And now she also has a name. “Paciencia”, which means “patience”.

For a long time we thought we were once more not going to get the chance to red point the route. The summer at the Eiger was very bad for climbing. During the past weeks Stephan and I kept going to the wall, to check the pitches. We tried to find the ideal route. The instable weather and the early snowfall already at mid August upset our plans. Our patience and our persistence have been rewarded. We found the ideal line, now we just had to put all together and climb all of the 27 pitches in one pull to the summit.

On Friday and Saturday, August 29 and 30, we had the chance. The wall was dry and I was able to climb all of the 27 pitches red point. We climbed the route alternatively. In the lead, I climbed all the most difficult pitches .

Now I can leave for my holidays with a good conscience. To sport climb: what else!

Lundi matin à Longchaumois sous les nuages mais la tête encore dans le ciel bleu du tour du Mont Blance

Beaucoup d’émotions, de grands moments, des images pleins la tête, ces derniers jours passé Chamonix ont été riches.

Un très bel UTMB sous le beau temps, un CCC couronné par la victoire de Guillaume Lenormand qui porte haut les couleurs Julbo l’événement sportif a rempli toutes ses promesses. Dawa Sherpa et Karine Herry deuxième femme et deuxième homme ont représenté la marque sur le podium de l’UTMB. Julbo était dans la course avec Guillaume qui est allé au bout de ses limites jusqu’à la Fouly. Nous lui souhaitons un prompt rétablissement.

Le salon du Trail a permis de vérifier que Julbo est la marque référente des trailers avec son verre Zebra et ses lunettes Trail et Race. Nous avons vu L’événement nous a permis d’accueillir nos distributeurs tchèques, neerlandais, autrichiens et espagnols pour leur présenter nos nouvelles collections et leur faire vivre l’implication de la marque dans le sport ceci grâces au programme VIP qui leur avait été concocté.

Bref, un bel événement qui nous remet en selle pour la rentrée

18 Août 2008. – La Société Julbo a célébré à Longchaumois le 120e anniversaire de sa fondation en 1888. Des bougies d’anniversaire, les premières d'une série, ont été soufflées lundi 18 août à Longchaumois, siège social de la société, en compagnie des 70 salariés qui travaillent sur le site. « Ce n’est pas commun qu’une entreprise fête ses 120 ans d’existence, nous sommes heureux de pouvoir partager cela en famille au sens large comme au sens propre du terme» ont déclaré Christophe et Matthieu Beaud, les directeurs de la société.

En effet, pour l’occasion les trois générations de la famille Beaud étaient rassemblées, ce qui démontre bien l’état d’esprit et la proximité de la marque Jurassienne. Après cette célébration plutôt intime, Julbo communiquera sur cet anniversaire beaucoup plus largement à l’occasion du SILMO 2008, le développement et les orientations futures de la maison.

Deux gros week-ends pour les riders du Team SANTA CRUZ M.I.A.

Du 10 au 20 juillet, les riders ont répondu présents aux événements respectifs ; SANTA CRUZ DAYS épisode III à Orcières 1850, MEGAVALANCHE, Roof’n Slope Style à Avoriaz, sessions photos pour notre partenaire Julbo, idem pour plusieurs magazines de la presse spécialisé, session vidéo pour la chaine TLM, idem pour MX Rush, Paradise Slope Style des 2 Alpes et Championnnats de France à Serre-Chevalier, ouf !

En résumé :

Tristan AMBID enflamme Avoriaz avec ses énormes Front flip !

Fredéric AUSTRUY termine 2ème lors du best Tricks, toujours à Avoriaz.

Quentin DERBIER termine à une très honorable 11ème place à la Megavalanche pour une première et 1er sénior. Yvaral VILLIER a lourdement chuté au départ de cette même épreuve mais a tout donné pour finir dans les 30 premiers après être parti dans les profondeurs.

En équipe, Tristan AMBID et Frédéric AUSTRUY finissent 3ème au Paradise Slope Style. C’est leur place qualificative, les runs finaux ont du être annulés à cause d’une météo peu clémente.

Shooting Julbo de plus de 8 heures dans les hauteurs d’Orcières 1850 avec Yvaral VILLIER et Quentin DERBIER.

Shooting de 2 x 4 heures pour VTT Mag et Velo Vert avec Yvaral VILLIER, Bruno PENONE et Uba.

Même le staff s’y met avec Cop en couverture d’O2 Biker du mois d’août, Uba en double page dans le magazine sportif généraliste Sport Mag n°3, etc.

Et dire que l’été commence à peine.

Par la même occasion, le Team SANTA CRUZ M.I.A leur dit d’hors et déjà un gros merci.

Yoann jumped from a technical spot called “Melchstuhl”, which was opened three years ago in 2005. The jump includes a line following a rock ridge down the West face of the Jungfrau. He arrived very low on a flatter section of the ridge and could not top the edge. He was killed instantly. Yoann had already jumped the same spot on Sunday the 29th June 2008.

The event organisers were informed two minutes after the accident. Yoann was evacuated to the Air-Glaciers base at 3.45pm.

Following a discussion with representatives of each team, it has been unanimously decided that the teams will continue with the event but not with a competition format. The teams will make a movie to be shown on the screen on Saturday evening, but not shown to a jury. The prize-money will be split equally amongst the teams.

The event is a film competition and not a competition based on sports performance.

Ouvert à tous, filles et garçons, cet événement ludique associe quatre sortes d’activités originales et funs : athlétique, de glisse, de précision et de descente. Les jeunes peuvent s’inscrire sur le nombre d’épreuves qu’ils le souhaitent et courent dans leur catégorie d’âge respective (8 catégories d’âge). Environ 500 enfants viendront se mesurer sur des épreuves telles que le short track, la descente en vtt, le biathlon, la street luge, mais aussi des innovations pour cette nouvelle édition telles que le triathlon ou encore le tir à l’arc poursuite. »
